Description

These Astrobin Debut Objects are located 0.5 billion light years away in the constellation of Triangulum at a declination of +28 degrees.  These 2 elliptical galaxies are huge.  Each spans over 2 arc-minutes in our apparent view, which corresponds to a diameter of over 300,000 light years for each galaxy!

Both of these galaxies are member of a galaxy cluster called BAX 037.0388+28.1825.  Not exactly an easy name to say or remember.   I couldn’t find much information on the galaxies or the cluster.

Although there are many interesting galaxies in this dense field, the most interesting part to me is the blue arc which extends for 200,000 light years at the upper left halo edge of IC 226.  I assume that this is a remnant from a past galaxy merger.
